3 Things to Do Right After You Get Engaged (That Most Brides Forget But Shouldn't)

So you just got engaged… cue the happy tears, the ring selfies, and the flood of ideas that hit all at once. Before you dive headfirst into Pinterest boards and bridal spreadsheets, let’s slow things down a little. This moment only happens once, and these next few steps can shape your whole wedding experience in the best way.

Here are three things I’ve seen so many couples forget in those first few days of being engaged, and I promise you’ll be glad you didn’t.

1. Soak It All In - you're engaged!!

Before you start touring venues or shopping for dresses, take a moment to really enjoy being engaged. This is such a short and special season. Tell your proposal story again and again. Have dinner with your families. Say fiancé a thousand times. You’ll have plenty of time to plan, but you only get this little window once.

Couple kissing, both in white shirts, standing near a brick column. Lush foliage in the blurred background, conveying a romantic mood.

2. Talk About the Vision Before Picking a Date

I know the first question everyone asks is “Have you set a date?” But a better place to start is with this question: What do we want our wedding to feel like?

Do you picture something romantic and elegant, or laid-back and fun with tacos and twinkle lights? Before choosing a date or venue, talk about your ideal vibe. Because your venue, location, and time of year will influence everything from your guest list to your photos.

A couple, embraced, stands on a beach with gentle waves. They're gazing at each other, exuding a romantic mood in black and white.

If you’re dreaming of a garden party wedding, pick a venue that has that kind of beauty built in. It’s hard to pull off a luxury look inside a barn, just like it’s hard to get coastal elegance in the middle of downtown. Your venue sets the tone and becomes the backdrop to your entire day. Choose one that fits your vision and reflects your story.

3. Book Your Photographer Early

Photographers book up faster than people expect. Most of us fill our calendars six months to a year in advance, sometimes even earlier for popular dates. So if you know you want someone who will truly capture the heart and emotion of your day, don’t wait. Even if you don’t have all your details locked in, reach out and get the conversation started.

Bonus: when you book early, you can also schedule engagement photos, get timeline help, and ask all your wedding questions along the way. A good photographer becomes more than just a vendor... we become your cheerleader and guide through it all.

Ready to Plan With Peace and Joy?

These early choices make all the difference. So slow down, soak it up, and start with the things that matter most, which is your vision, your story, and the people who will help bring it to life.

If you're looking for a photographer who will capture every sweet moment with heart, I’d love to chat. I serve couples all over Central Florida and the Space Coast and would be honored to tell your story.
